Christine Plays Viola-Leocadia

Artist:
Christine Plays Viola
Release:
Leocadia
Label:
afmusic

For my first review for Subexistance I was asked to choose a band from afmusic, a German label working with underground dark wave and gothic bands. And since it was going to be my first review, I wanted it to be as positive as possible; therefore I picked an Italian band with a beautiful name, Christine Plays Viola. And the review is about their latest single-EP, “Leocadia”, which was released on 31 May 2013.

Gedankenrasen-Innere Apokalypse

Artist:
Gedankenrasen
Release:
Innere Apokalypse
Label:
Echozone / Körperschall Records

This project shows its intentions right from start:synth lines and fast beats dominate the scenery, here.Electro is the name of the game, obviously.Strangely so,vocals are not delivered in a brutal, howling manor-opting instead for a type of clean, mechanical vocal performance.Something that fits the music quite well,in my opinion.

Laburinthos - Augoeides

Artist:
Laburinthos
Release:
Augoeides
Label:
Avant-Garde

Well, as one can propably understand, it is impossible not to observe that this band uses a name of hellenic orienatation-moreover, this release makes use of another greek work as a title. That makes a rather strong reference, indeed, provided the fact that Laburinthos have nothing to do with Hellas, whatsoever, since their country of origin is, in fact, Romania! Secondly, I must admit that never have I heard of them, until now, that is! Therefore, I ignored their existence, completely!

Descendants Of Cain - Songs From A Vanishing World

Artist:
Descendants Of Cain
Release:
Songs From A Vanishing World
Label:
Echozone/Sony Music

This album definitely made a good impression to me, upon initially seeing its artwork. Indeed, the art presented here is unique and gloomy, relying mostly on black and white touches, yet delivering a different approach to what we have come to think as acceptable, or even, dare I say, pleasant, especially when we are dealing with gothic iconography.

Andreas Gross - Autumn Inventors

Artist:
Andreas Gross
Release:
Autumn Inventors
Label:
Echozone

My first notice concerning this disc was:yet another Echozone release for me to review! And a very good one,I might add..My second notice about it was how wonderfully titled this album is!I could say that"Autumn Inventors"almost sounds poetic to my ears. And what's more it perfectly fits as a description to the majority of the sounds exemplified within this cd.
