Christine Plays Viola-Leocadia

Artist:
Christine Plays Viola
Release:
Leocadia
Label:
afmusic

For my first review for Subexistance I was asked to choose a band from afmusic, a German label working with underground dark wave and gothic bands. And since it was going to be my first review, I wanted it to be as positive as possible; therefore I picked an Italian band with a beautiful name, Christine Plays Viola. And the review is about their latest single-EP, “Leocadia”, which was released on 31 May 2013.

Hearts Fail - Other Blessings

Hearts Fail

We have one of my favorite bands here, Hearts Fail, originating from San Antonio. When their last musical piece had been released, Dying Season, I had said that, if the album came out back in the 80s, we’d have a supergroup now, ladies and gentlemen.

Principe Valiente - Principe Valiente

Artist:
Principe Valiente
Release:
Principe Valiente
Label:

While listening to the self-titled debut album of Sweden’s very own Principe Valiente, I cannot help but think that rock music is definitely in the blood of the Swedish. Despite all the critically acclaimed metal bands there is also an active indie/post/punk scene which indeed worth of our attention.

Gothic Visions III - Echozone

Artist:
Echozone
Release:
Gothic Visions III
Label:
Echozone

Gothic Visions 3 is the third part of this excellent effort put into work by Jork and Echozone’s team. Let us be honest: these days’ musical industry’s heart undoubtedly resides in Germany-there is not one other country (not even England) that actually tries that much to release albums of that fine standards, sparing time, money and graft for the dark scene (naturally, I am not speaking about bands and musicians – talent can be found anywhere world over).

Laissez Faire - No Land For Escape

Artist:
Laissez Faire
Release:
No Land For Escape
Label:
Echozone

Strangely, the first thing that came to mind when I first saw this cd, was Adam Smith's phrase: "Laissez Faire et Laissez Passer". Of course, this band has nothing in common with the Scottish forefather of modern capitalism. The second thing that I would like to mention, is that, until today, I had never heard of this band. What's more I am very pleasantly surprised and intrigued I could add, since discovering them. This release of course is a bit old, since it saw the light of day back in 2008.

Lotus Feed

The Band Lotus Feed was originally founded in 1995.Followed by several line-up changes, founding members Alex (vocals) and David (drums) met guitarist Marten and bassist Lars, who completed the band in 2009. Ever since the band emerged as an insiders’ tip of the cologne oldschool-goth and post punk scene.

Laissez Faire

Laissez Faire were formed in Thessaloniki, Greece in 2003. They are inspired by 80's and 90's new wave, indie and alternative music. In 2008, they released their debute album entitled "No Land For Escape".

You form as a band back in 2003.What was the main thing that push you to create the band?
It was our common interest in music and our need to express ourselves through creativity that pushed us to form Laissez Faire.

DJ Martin Oldgoth

Martin, a disillusioned ex-punk, turned to the darkside in 1982 & found he preferred it. Working as a doorman, part time DJ and promoter in Romfords' Rezz club from 1985 taught him all he needed to know about avoiding 'proper' work and a life on the alternative side of things beckoned.

“Ephemera”, or the album would be more accurately titled ‘Welcome to the strange world of Martin Bowes!’.
